The world we live in needs more and more buildings and infrastructures. Concrete, made of gravel and cement, is, after water, the world's most consumed substance, being critical for the economic and social life of the community. The challenge we face is to build differently. Buildings are responsible for a high consumption of energy and an important volume of CO2 emissions throughout their lifecycle, starting with the production of materials, through building process, actual use of buildings and ending with their demolition. The sustainable construction concept is based precisely on the control of the building's operation, mitigation of the negative environmental impact throughout its life, improvement of thermal inertia, use of recyclable materials or integration of renewable energy sources. Lafarge, as the world leader in building materials, aims at developing and promoting sustainable constructions through partnerships with other stakeholders in the field of constructions and architecture to produce materials and generate new building methods.
